Day 1: London – Houston 

Fly into Houston at the start of your Southern Texas adventure. In the evening, you’ll want to head straight out to explore this exciting city so why not try out Houston’s exciting range of dining venues showcasing cuisine from 71 countries including of course superb steakhouses and spicy Tex-Mex restaurants.

Stay 3 nights at the Westin Galleria Hotel (or similar). 

Day 2: Houston 

Start out by exploring Houston’s compact downtown area from Wells Fargo Plaza where a 7-mile network of underground shopping, food courts and designer boutiques wait to be explored no matter the weather outside. After re-emerging, take in pretty Hermann Square, the imposing towers of City Hall and lively Market Square Park. In the evening be sure try a locally brewed craft beer at one of the fun gastro pubs in the neighbourhood and take in a performance at the Downtown Theater District.  

Day 3: Houston’s Museums and NASA Space Center

Today explore some of Houston’s famous museums starting at the city’s Museum District where you’ll be spoiled for choice between the Museum of Natural Science, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and the Menil Collection. In the afternoon take the short drive south to the NASA Johnson Space Center where spaceflight training and flight control are conducted.  Here you’ll experience the thrills of IMAX films of space exploration, have a behind-the-scenes tour of human space travel in action, and clamber aboard a space shuttle replica mounted on a Boeing 747.

Day 4: Austin

Make an early start this morning to collect your hire car and drive westwards to the capital city of Austin, home to the handsome State Capitol Building. You’ll be able to tour the historic downtown area on foot or by carriage and after seeing the nightly ritual of bats emerging from Bat Bridge at sunset, experience the “Live Music Capital of the World” exploring some of the 250+ music venues that this lively city has to offer. 

Stay 1 night at the Hotel Indigo Downtown (or similar).

Day 5: Fredericksburg

Head out to Fredericksburg to explore the peaceful and scenic Southern Texas hill country. Be sure to stop at one of the local wineries for a tour and sampling before arriving in Fredericksburg, noted for its Germanic heritage, quaint boutique shops and local German-style fare.  

Stay 1 night at the Comfort Inn & Suites Fredericksburg (or similar). 

Day 6: Bandera

Travel to the Texas Cowboy Capital of Bandera where you can enjoy horseback riding, fishing, hiking and all the amenities at a Dude Ranch. All meals are included as well as trail rides and cookouts with Texan cowboys. In the evening, gather around the campfire for sing-a-longs, dancing and cowboy tales of life of the ranch.  

Stay 1 night at the Dixie Dude Ranch (or similar).

Day 7: San Antonio

Continuing to Texas’ heartland, today you'll travel to San Antonio, a city rich in history and bursting with cultural attractions, and where you'll be able to enjoy a pleasant evening stroll or boat ride along the city’s winding River Walk - an urban sanctuary lined with shops and al fresco restaurants. 

Stay 2 nights at the Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk (or similar).

Day 8: San Antonio 

Today you’ll see the inspirational site of The Alamo, the epicentre of Texan history, which you can tour along with other 18th century Spanish missions in the city’s UNESCO-recognized Missions National Historical Park. The walled compounds of the Missions encompassing historic churches and buildings are the largest concentration of Spanish colonial missions in North America. 

Day 9: Houston - London

Say goodbye to your discovery of Southern Texas as you drive back towards Houston to catch your overnight flight home from the airport.
